The Adhan of Bilaal (may Allah be pleased with him)

It is reported that Bilaal (may Allah be pleased with him) never used to call the adhan for anyone after the death of the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He wanted to go for jihad but Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) didn't want him to go. So Bilaal (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "If you freed me [when I was a slave] for Allah's pleasure, then let me go." So he went to Al-Sham.

When ‛Umar Ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived in Al-Jabiyah [during his Caliphate], the Muslims requested him to ask Bilaal to do the adhan for them, so‛Umar asked him. He called the adhan one day and never were as many people heard crying as on that day as they remembered the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

It is said that the adhan of the people of Al-Sham was taken from this adhan.

Moral

This story shows us just how much the companions loved the Prophet Muhammad (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah upon him) that anything which reminded them of the time when he was alive would make them cry.
